Jackie Bradley Jr. Commits to Full-Time Role with Savannah Bananas‘ banana Ball
SAVANNAH, GA – Former Major League Baseball outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. has signed on for a full-time role with the Savannah Bananas’ Banana Ball team, marking the first time a former MLB player has committed to the exhibition circuit on a full-time basis. The move signals a potential shift in the landscape of post-career options for professional baseball players.
Bradley, known for his defensive prowess and engaging personality, expressed a desire to “be present were my feet are” and described the opportunity as one he couldn’t refuse. According to Bananas President Jared Cole, Bradley brings a unique blend of skill and entertainment to the field.
“He represents a certain flair and fun on the field while still being able to play at a high level,” Cole explained.
While former MLB players like Roger Clemens (March 2024) and Johnny Damon (July 2024) have made appearances in Banana Ball games, Bradley’s commitment represents a sustained involvement. Cole believes this could open doors for other players nearing the end of their conventional careers.
“If there’s players at the end of their career that want to just go and maybe play 60 games instead of 160 and play at sold-out stadiums and really just have a lot of fun while doing it, I think this could be something that would be a viable option,” Cole said. “Jackie’s a trendsetter, and I think he’s going to set the tone for maybe giving some other players at the end of their careers another option.”
Bradley, however, doesn’t view this as a retirement move. He hopes to continue playing beyond his initial commitment, acknowledging that all playing careers eventually end but emphasizing the importance of cherishing every moment.
Sence its inception in 2022, Banana Ball has experienced rapid growth, and is scheduled to play in front of an estimated 3.2 million fans next year. Bradley’s participation is expected to further elevate the league’s profile.
