LARCHWOOD, Iowa – Four people were hospitalized Friday night following a two-vehicle collision near the Grand Falls Casino, located northwest of Larchwood. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Beech avenue.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kristina Espinoza, 36, of Doon, was driving east on Beech Ave when her 2010 Lincoln entered an intersection with Highway 9 without yielding to a stop sign. Her vehicle was struck by a 2005 GMC Yukon driven by Quyntin maassen, 32, of Larchwood, who was traveling south on Highway 9. The collision resulted in a broadside impact to Espinoza’s vehicle.
Espinoza sustained facial and other injuries and is suspected of driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. A passenger in Espinoza’s vehicle, 12-year-old Kado Jacinto-Espinoza, was also injured.
Maassen’s passenger, Rachel Maassen, 30, was 36 weeks pregnant at the time of the crash.
Larchwood EMS transported Espinoza and Kado Jacinto-Espinoza to Sanford University Medical Centre Hospital in Sioux Falls. Lyon County Ambulance EMTs took Ezyah Espinoza-Jacinto,10,to Sanford,and Rachel Maassen to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
the Lincoln sustained $5,000 in damages and the GMC Yukon $6,000. Both vehicles were totaled. As of Saturday, no charges have been filed.
