Illini Men’s Tennis Heads to Chicago for ITA Midwest Regional Championship
CHICAGO, IL – October 19, 2023 – The University of Illinois men’s tennis team will compete in the ITA Midwest Regional championship this weekend, beginning Friday, October 20th, at the XS Tennis Village in Chicago. The tournament features a field of top Midwestern collegiate players vying for titles in both singles and doubles competition.
The ITA Midwest Regional serves as a crucial early-season test for the Illini, providing an prospect to gauge their performance against regional rivals and earn automatic qualification for the ITA national Indoor championships. Success at the regional level is a key indicator of potential national success, and the tournament will offer valuable match experience as the team prepares for the spring dual match season.
In singles play,Sasha Colleu will face Iker Dellien of Northern Illinois in the first round. Fellow Illini Hayden Jones, seeded ninth, will compete against a qualifier, as will Jeremy Zhang. Adam Jilly, also seeded ninth, is scheduled to play kyran Magimay from Notre Dame.
The doubles bracket will see the Illinois pairing of Hayden Jones and Jeremy Zhang taking on Youssef Mokhles and Mihailo Savic from UIC.Adam Jilly and Sasha Colleu will face Charlie Snow and Cole Cozens of Toledo in their opening match.
