Chicago Day Care Worker Detained by ICE Agents at North Side Facility
CHICAGO – immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a day care worker at the Rayito de Sol day care center on Chicago’s North Side Wednesday morning, according to multiple witnesses. the arrest occurred as children were arriving for the day, causing significant distress among students, parents, and staff.
the incident raises concerns about ICE enforcement tactics at sensitive locations like schools and day care centers. While ICE routinely conducts enforcement actions, arresting an individual in front of young children has sparked outrage from local officials and parents, who are demanding the worker’s immediate release and answers about the operation.
Witnesses reported that agents, identified by “ICE” markings on their jackets, pursued the worker inside the day care. They stated the agents did not present a warrant and disregarded the worker’s claims of having proper documentation.
“You had agents with guns who were walking around the facility with teachers inside, with children inside, and so we are of course demanding that she be released immediately,” said 47th Ward Alderman Matt Martin.
Parent Tara Goodarzi described the scene as traumatic. “Schools are supposed to be places of safety, of security and not places where we have to talk to our children about why their teacher is being abducted and screaming and running away from agents with guns and masks while she is trying to enter the school,” she said.
Parents reported children and teachers were crying following the arrest, and many are struggling to process what they witnessed.
additional parents and officials are expected to address the incident later Wednesday.
