Operation Blessing Brings Light and Relief too Hurricane melissa Victims in the Caribbean

MONTEGO BAY,⁢ JAMAICA – In the wake of devastating Hurricane⁤ Melissa, Operation Blessing (OB) is on the ground in Jamaica delivering critical aid⁣ to communities ravaged ⁢by the Category 5 storm. Initial reports indicate at least 50 fatalities, a number authorities expect to climb as recovery efforts continue.

The hurricane, packing winds of 185 miles per hour, caused widespread destruction across the Caribbean, leveling homes, triggering power outages, and obstructing roadways, severely hindering cleanup operations. Entire communities have⁢ been isolated or ⁢completely⁤ wiped out, according‌ to government officials.

OB’s Global Disaster ‌Response team arrived in Montego Bay Wednesday evening and immediately began distributing solar lamps to families‍ left in darkness. “It looks crazy…but you know God is with us‌ and this is a ray of hope for the families,”‍ said Diego Traverso ‍of Operation Blessing, describing the immediate impact of the lamps. “We ‌just park ‌and people start coming out of‍ the⁣ darkness to get one of the⁣ solar lamps.”

Traverso added, “This is just the story ‌of Operation Blessing. We show up in dark ⁣places, and people come, attracted by the light.⁣ Such a metaphor of the Gospel.”

Beyond the immediate provision of light, Operation‍ Blessing is preparing to distribute emergency food and supplies, clean water, water purification systems, and medical care to affected communities in the coming days.
