Garner Fulfillment Center Powers Holiday Deliveries to Wake County
GARNER,N.C. - As the holiday shopping season peaks, a significant portion of packages arriving at Wake County homes are originating from Amazon‘s fulfillment center in Garner, North Carolina. Approximately 60% of packages processed at the facility are destined for addresses within wake County, with the remainder shipped to neighboring regions.
The complex operation ensures gifts reach customers quickly, a process increasingly vital as online shopping dominates the holiday season. Understanding this journey-from seller to doorstep-highlights the scale of e-commerce and its impact on local economies. Independent sellers in North Carolina average $200,000 in annual sales through the platform, demonstrating the opportunities available through online marketplaces.
The process begins with deliveries to the inbound dock from sellers and manufacturers. Received items undergo a rigorous quality inspection and are then scanned into Amazon’s system by employees. “It warms my heart knowing we are going to get the gifts out to kids in a timely fashion and making parents happy as well,” said Pam Stewart, an Amazon employee involved in the initial processing stages.
Following inspection, products are stowed and made available for purchase. Once a customer completes an online order, robotic systems retrieve the item and deliver it to the packing department. Employees then efficiently pack the boxes for shipment.
The final stage, known as S.L.A.M. – scanning, labeling, applying, and manifest - prepares each package for transit. This includes affixing a shipping label and loading the package onto a delivery truck. Customers can identify packages originating from the Garner facility by looking for the “RDU1″ code on the shipping label.
