#23 Football falls to TCU in Home Finale
HOUSTON – The University of Houston football team concluded its home schedule Saturday with a 38-23 loss to TCU at TDECU Stadium. Despite a second-half surge sparked by multiple turnovers, the Cougars were unable to overcome an early 14-0 deficit established by two first-quarter touchdown passes from TCU’s Josh Hoover.
The defeat marked the final game at TDECU Stadium for a senior class that helped lead Houston through its transition to the Big 12 Conference. While the Cougars showcased promising offensive and defensive moments, particularly through the play of quarterback Donavan Weigman and defensive back Isaiah James, consistent execution proved elusive against a determined Horned Frogs squad.
Houston’s first points came early in the second quarter following James’ initial interception, which led to a 13-play,62-yard drive culminating in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Weigman to wide receiver Amare Thomas. Later in the game, running back Dean Connors powered in an 8-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 14-14.
Weigman finished the day completing 15 of 29 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns, adding 114 rushing yards. Connors contributed 75 rushing yards and five receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown, while Thomas recorded five catches for 72 yards and a score.
Defensively, James recorded a career-high three turnovers, including a forced fumble recovered by safety Jordan Allen in the third quarter.
The Cougars (7-5) will close out the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 29, at Baylor in Waco, Texas. Game time and broadcasting details will be announced at a later date.
