Houston Cougars Conclude Season with 6-3 Big 12 Record, Await Bowl Invitation
Arlington, TX – The Houston cougars finished their inaugural Big 12 season with a 6-3 conference record, positioning themselves for a bowl game appearance despite falling short of the conference championship. The Cougars’ performance places them alongside Arizona, Arizona State, and TCU, all concluding conference play with identical records.
Texas Tech and BYU emerged as the Big 12’s top contenders, both posting 8-1 conference records and earning a rematch in the conference championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. While Utah finished with a competitive record, their fate remains uncertain as they potentially vie for a College Football Playoff berth dependent on outcomes elsewhere.
Houston’s six conference wins mark a successful transition into the Big 12, a Power Five conference. The team will learn its bowl game destination in the coming weeks. Other teams concluding conference play with losing records include Baylor (3-6), Kansas (3-6), UCF (2-7), West Virginia (2-7), colorado (1-8), and Oklahoma State (0-8). Iowa State, Kansas State, and Cincinnati each finished with a 5-4 conference record.
