Title: Houston Cougars Recognized on Midseason All-Texas Football Team

HOUSTON – Six University of ‌Houston football players – McCutchin Sr., Sanchez, Connors, Laufau, Allen jr., ‍and Jordan Allen – have been named to the midseason All-Texas Team, as announced Tuesday. The ‍selections⁤ highlight ​the⁢ Cougars’ strong individual performances through ⁤the first half of the 2024 season.

Cornerback McCutchin Sr. has been a key defensive contributor, posting the sixth-lowest​ reception percentage ‍(52.6%) among Texas cornerbacks, allowing only 10 receptions in six‍ games. His defensive grade of 77.2, as graded by Pro ⁣Football Focus, ranks second among Texas cornerbacks ⁤with at least 245 snaps played, ⁤and ⁤he currently has 25 tackles, ranking fifth on the team.

Kicker Sanchez is making a national impact, ⁣leading ​the country with eight 40+ yard ‍field goals and ranking second nationally with 14 made field goals and 2.33 field goals⁤ per game.​ He is the only kicker in the nation with multiple four-field goal games this season.

Running back Connors leads Houston’s rushing attack with 438 yards, just eight yards shy of ⁢surpassing the Cougars’ total from all of 2023. He has​ scored ‌four rushing touchdowns and added another receiving touchdown, ‍currently ranking fifth in the Big​ 12 Conference⁤ in rushing yards.

Defensive lineman Laufau‌ has recorded 21 tackles, eighth-most on the team, and ⁢is graded as one of the ​top run-stoppers in‌ texas (87.2 – 2nd).He and teammate Allen ‌Jr. represent Houston with two⁣ of the top ⁣seven run-stopping linemen nationally,with Laufau holding the No. 1 ranking and Allen Jr. ⁣at No. 7.

Safety Jordan allen is sixth on the team with 23‍ tackles and is the ​fourth-best safety in coverage in Texas (82.0). He has allowed​ just five catches on 10 targets, ​with a long reception of only 11 yards – the shortest passing play allowed with at⁤ least ‌100 coverage snaps played in Texas.
