CFCCU Alerts Members to Misleading Home Warranty Mailers
Community First Credit Union (CFCCU) is warning members about deceptive mailings from third-party companies falsely implying affiliation with the credit union. These letters promote home warranty products and are triggering concern among recent homebuyers who have secured loans through CFCCU.
These unsolicited letters capitalize on publicly available information regarding new home loans. Companies obtain data from credit reporting agencies to identify homeowners who recently financed their properties, then send official-looking correspondence suggesting existing home warranty coverage is about to lapse or requires immediate attention.CFCCU emphasizes it does not endorse, authorize, or have any partnership with these businesses.
The credit union reports these mailers often mimic CFCCU branding to mislead recipients into believing the dialog is legitimate.CFCCU assures its members that these are not official notices from the financial institution.
“We want to protect our members from perhaps unnecessary expenses and misleading offers,” a CFCCU representative stated. “These companies are simply leveraging public records to generate sales, and their letters are designed to create a sense of urgency.”
CFCCU encourages anyone who receives a suspicious home warranty letter to contact the credit union’s lending department to verify its authenticity.
