The story centers on Cade, played by Tyriq Withers, a promising athlete whose career is threatened by a severe head injury sustained during practice.Withers, who reportedly idolized the character he portrays, suffered a real-life head injury mirroring the film’s premise. wayans’ character, known only as White, invites Cade to a secluded compound in the Texas desert, promising a path to recovery.
What follows is a week of unconventional “training” involving intense physical challenges, blood transfusions, and a disturbing physical examination. The film draws parallels to classic Faustian bargains, referencing films like damn Yankees and Rosemary’s Baby. Directed by Justin Tipping and written by Tipping, Zack Akers, and Skip Bronkie, “Him” aims for the unsettling atmosphere of recent horror hits like barbarian and Weapons, though the review notes the film doesn’t quite achieve that level of impact.
