Hemlocke Springs Announces Debut Album, Shares Eccentric New Single “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Ankles”
Rising artist Hemlocke Springs has announced her debut album, ‘Teh Apple Tree Under the Sea,’ arriving May 31st, alongside the release of its playfully bizarre single, “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Ankles.” The proclamation marks a significant step for the artist, who previously expressed a desire to move beyond her bedroom pop origins and fully realize her artistic vision.
Springs first gained attention with her 2023 EP, ‘going…going…GONE!’, and was later championed by Chappell Roan amidst a public dispute regarding artist compensation within the music industry. This album represents the culmination of that growth and a move toward a more assured creative direction, following a period of self-discovery and experimentation.’The Apple Tree Under The Sea’ promises to deliver on the aspiring vision Springs hinted at, offering fans a deeper dive into her unique sonic world.
In a 2023 interview with NME, Springs stated, “I started in this little, quiet bedroom pop world, and I wanted to finish the EP correctly so at least I can move onto the next world with an open mind and more experience. I want to be more assured of what I want to do. The vision for the album is there, but I’m personally not there yet. I’m still the person in my room on my computer.”
Springs was also one of four artists highlighted by Chappell Roan in response to a Hollywood Reporter op-ed criticizing Roan’s Grammy acceptance speech. Roan used her platform to advocate for fair wages and healthcare for developing artists, challenging the author, Jeffrey Rabhan, to match her $25,000 donation to struggling artists and spotlighting Springs, Sarah Kinsley, Devon Again, and Baby Storme as artists deserving wider recognition.
