Liverpool Defender Giovanni Leoni suffers ACL Injury, Potential January Transfer Target Identified
Liverpool FC have confirmed that young center-back Giovanni Leoni has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, potentially sidelining him for the remainder of the season. The club reports Leoni “will give everything to be back as soon as possible,” and will receive full support from the squad during his recovery.
the injury to Leoni leaves Liverpool with three fit senior centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez, who himself has a history of serious injuries. The setback may prompt the club to revisit transfer options as early as the January window, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi emerging as a potential target.
Guehi, 25, was previously a Liverpool target during the summer transfer window, with a proposed £35 million move ultimately falling through. he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, and Liverpool had initially planned to pursue a deal then. Though, Leoni’s injury is expected to accelerate discussions with Palace, potentially leading to a transfer for a fee lower than the previously discussed £35 million.
Support for Leoni has already been voiced by teammates Andy Robertson and Rio Ngumoha.
