Brussels – European ministers convened today to address the critical link between vocational education and training (VFP), skilled labor, and the continent’s economic competitiveness. Discussions centered on aligning VFP programs with evolving labor market demands while ensuring inclusive, high-quality education for all learners.

The November 27th meeting, held under the auspices of the Council “Education,” underscored the urgency of bolstering VFP attractiveness and achieving gender balance, notably in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. These efforts aim to equip the European workforce with the skills needed to navigate a rapidly changing global economy and maintain Europe’s competitive edge.

Danish minister for Children and Education, Mattias Tesfaye, participated in the discussions, emphasizing the need to better tailor VFP curricula to industry needs.Ministers also debated strategies to increase the appeal of VFP pathways and address gender disparities within traditionally male-dominated STEM sectors.
