Title: Early Goal Lifts RiverHawks on UNK Senior Day

by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Kearney, Neb. – A first-half goal proved ‍to be the difference Sunday as the Northeastern State ⁤riverhawks defeated the University of Nebraska at Kearney Lopers⁤ 1-0 on Senior Day. ⁤The Lopers ‌recognized their eight-member senior class prior to the contest.

The loss concluded the regular season for UNK, ‌finishing with an overall record ‌of 6-11-3 and a 3-8-2 mark in MIAA play.Despite the setback, Head Coach Chloe Breton highlighted⁤ the significant‌ progress the program‍ has made during ⁤the tenure of this senior class, recalling ⁤a challenging 0-15-3 freshman‌ season that‍ culminated in ⁣an ‍8-6-5 campaign and a playoff⁣ appearance last year.

Early in the second ‍half,⁢ UNK nearly equalized when junior Chloe Edmunds’ shot sailed⁣ just over the crossbar, resulting in a goal kick for Northeastern⁤ State. ⁤Prior to the break, Loper junior Jordan Renard registered a shot on goal.

“This is a lot of our⁤ season. It’s absolutely frustrating the outcome isn’t what⁤ we want but we have ‍to ⁤understand ⁤and appreciate ⁤the process and progress,” Breton said. “This year,‍ the⁤ chances have been ‍created but⁤ we just can’t get them to fall. At the end of the day,I gave them⁢ credit for being in the right spot‌ at the right time.Couple inches hear and there…it’s ‌a wholly different season for us.”

Northeastern State (3-11-2, 1-8-2) later ⁢tied Rogers State ‍1-1⁢ on Sunday.
