A Legacy of Leadership: Remembering Dr.Patricia Maryland
It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Dr. Patricia Maryland, a remarkable leader, a woman of unwavering integrity, and a cherished friend. I first had the pleasure of meeting Pat thirty years ago in birmingham, Alabama. She initiated the conversation while visiting family, demonstrating a proactive curiosity that characterized her throughout her career.
Even then, her capabilities were readily apparent. Leading a highly-regarded physician practice group at the time, she was exploring opportunities in hospital management – a path I would have enthusiastically supported, confident in her immediate success. Her talent and vision were undeniable.
Dr. Maryland’s career left an indelible mark on the American healthcare landscape. She consistently focused on fostering the growth and potential of others, a commitment that extended even into her retirement. she generously shared her expertise, continuing to contribute to the advancement of the field she so passionately served.
Six years ago, I was honored to collaborate with Pat as we developed The Lofton Institute to ELEVATE Health System Leaders. Her contributions were invaluable. She brought a level of precision, insightful analysis, and strategic thinking that significantly strengthened the program, enhancing its impact for both its creators and its participants.
Dr. Maryland was, simply put, remarkable.
As Chairman and CEO of ELEVATE, I know her loss will be profoundly felt. We have lost a true pioneer in healthcare, and we are deeply grateful for her leadership, her empathy, and her unwavering commitment to excellence. NAHSE National
