DETROIT – City of Detroit offices will be closed Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday, impacting in-person services but leaving many online resources accessible to residents.
The closures affect most city departments,though essential services and online platforms will remain operational. Residents can still manage tasks like tax payments, permit applications, and DDOT pass procurement through the city’s website, detroitmi.gov. The temporary shutdown underscores the city’s commitment to both employee well-being during the holiday and continued accessibility of vital public services. service requests-including illegal dumping removal, streetlight repairs, and abandoned vehicle reports-can be submitted via the Improve Detroit app or online at detroitmi.gov/ImproveDetroit.
Eastern Market Garage, located at 2727 Riopelle Street, will adjust its hours. It will operate from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 27, be closed November 28, and operate 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 29, returning to normal business hours on Monday, December 1. Parking rates at the garage vary: $10 flat rate on November 27, $5 on November 29, and a tiered system of $5 for the first two hours, $10 for two to four hours, and $15 for more than four hours on November 30, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Detroit People Mover will operate from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, offering free rides and a free Hot Cocoa and Handwarmers event at Grand Circus Park Station from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. On Friday, November 28, the People Mover will run from 6:30 a.m. to midnight. The Times Square Station remains closed for winter platform resurfacing.
