Title: Delhi Cop Shoots Food Delivery Agent Dead in Public Incident, Another Injured
A Delhi Police constable opened fire on two food delivery agents during a birthday celebration in the Rohini area of northwest Delhi on April 5, 2026, killing one and seriously injuring another, according to multiple eyewitness accounts and preliminary police statements.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Near a residential lane in Sector 16, where the constable, identified as 32-year-old Rakesh Kumar from the Outer North district, was attending a private gathering with colleagues. Witnesses reported that an argument erupted after the delivery agents, who were on their way to drop off food orders, allegedly played loud music from their scooter, disturbing the party.
According to the injured delivery agent, 24-year-old Vikas Mehta, who remains hospitalized at Baba Sahib Ambedkar Hospital, the constable approached them aggressively and demanded they lower the volume. When they complied and attempted to leave, Kumar allegedly drew his service revolver and fired two shots at close range.
The first bullet struck 26-year-old Aman Singh, the sole breadwinner for his family of four, in the chest, killing him instantly. Singh, a resident of Bihar who had been working in Delhi for three years to support his elderly parents and younger siblings, had just celebrated his birthday earlier that evening with friends. The second bullet pierced through Singh’s body and hit Mehta in the left shoulder, causing significant trauma but non-life-threatening injuries.
Delhi Police confirmed that Kumar was immediately detained at the scene and his service weapon seized. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 25 of the Arms Act at the Rohini North police station. The constable has been suspended pending departmental inquiry.
Senior officials from the Delhi Police Headquarters stated that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered alongside the internal investigation, with forensic teams having collected ballistic evidence and CCTV footage from nearby cameras. The victim’s family, who arrived from Bihar the following morning, have been provided with initial assistance under the police welfare scheme, though they have demanded immediate termination of the officer and criminal prosecution.
The injured delivery agent, still under medical observation, told investigators that the constable appeared intoxicated and shouted abusive remarks before opening fire, alleging that Kumar had questioned their caste background during the confrontation. Police have not confirmed these claims, stating that toxicology reports and witness testimonies are still being evaluated.
As of April 8, 2026, the constable remains in judicial custody after being produced before a local court, which denied bail citing the gravity of the charges. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation, with no public timeline released for the conclusion of either the departmental or magisterial proceedings.
