State Funding Boosts​ Pedestrian​ Safety Project Near Citrus Grove Schools

CITRUS GROVE, FL – ‍ A $800,000 state funding allocation secured by State Representative Alex Rizo will considerably advance a $3.2 million pedestrian safety‍ initiative aimed at protecting children and families walking and biking near schools in Citrus Grove. ⁢The funding, awarded ⁤too Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, will directly support improvements along SW 22 Avenue between 3rd ⁤and ​6th Street ⁣- a corridor identified ​as a ‍high-risk area for ‍pedestrian crashes and fatalities.

The project, a collaborative⁤ effort between‌ state, ⁢county, and city officials, focuses on enhancing safety for students and families ⁢traveling to and from school. Planned upgrades ⁤include curb extensions, a new mid-block crossing with ⁢Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons ‍(rrfbs) between NW‍ 5th and NW 6th Streets, ​concrete safety islands, ⁣and an upgraded pedestrian signal at NW 22 Avenue between NW 4 Terrace and​ NW 5 Street. Beautification enhancements are⁢ also included.

“I’m proud to partner with Commissioner Eileen Higgins and ⁣Miami-Dade County to‌ make our streets⁣ safer ‍for the children and families of Citrus⁢ Grove,” said⁢ Representative Rizo. “When state and local leaders work together, we can deliver real ⁣results that‍ strengthen our⁢ neighborhoods and‍ improve the ‌quality of ​life for our residents.”

Commissioner Higgins echoed this sentiment, stating, “With the ‍support of our state and county teams, I’m⁢ excited to see this roadway ⁤become⁣ a safer, more welcoming place for the children and families ‍of Citrus Grove.”

Miami-Dade ‍County is contributing $2.4 million to the project, bringing the total investment​ to $3.2 million.
