Cloud Engineer – Powering a Net Zero Future (Portsmouth, UK)
SSE is seeking a talented Cloud Engineer to join our growing IT division in Portsmouth, United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a leading energy company committed to a net zero world, investing approximately £10 million daily in homegrown energy solutions.
The Role
As a Cloud engineer, you will be a key member of a collaborative team, working alongside strategists, architects, and subject matter experts to develop and implement technical solutions that drive business acceleration. You will play a vital role in shaping our cloud infrastructure and supporting the delivery of scalable, resilient, and high-performing applications.
Key Responsibilities:
* collaborate with Product Owners and management to effectively manage and communicate demand planning and delivery against the product backlog.
* Design,develop,and maintain automation,self-service,and deployment frameworks aligned with industry-standard cloud patterns and best practices.
* Proactively identify and implement opportunities for continuous enhancement across engineering, delivery, and operational processes.
* Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, guiding them in the adoption of Cloud Native Application Architecture patterns and providing regular progress updates.
* Ensure all architecture and cloud infrastructure adheres to the latest security and software lifecycle standards.
What You’ll Bring:
* A solid understanding of either Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure and Cloud Native Architectures is essential. Cloud certifications in either platform are highly desirable.
* Knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and/or Linux) is advantageous.
* Strong analytical skills and a firm grasp of operational support procedures.
* Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Go, Java) and a familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
* Experiance with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, or Configuration Management tools like Ansible/Puppet, and exposure to CI/CD solutions such as GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
