SELINSGROVE,PA – Susquehanna University swimmer Emma Church has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week,the conference announced today,after a dominant performance propelled the river Hawks to a 134-127 victory over Juniata College on Saturday.
Church’s outstanding individual results and crucial contribution to the final relay secured the win for Susquehanna,a result that hinged on the outcome of the last race. The River Hawks’ triumph over Juniata marks an vital early-season victory as they navigate a challenging schedule within the Landmark Conference.
The sophomore standout began her impressive day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 2:06.94 and edging out Juniata’s Dani Cline. Church continued her winning streak in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing over two seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 57.89.
With the team score tightly contested, the 400-yard freestyle relay became the deciding factor. Church, swimming the anchor leg alongside teammates Cameron Alvino, Payton kenney, and Jillie Donner, delivered a decisive performance, winning the race by more than two seconds and sealing the victory for the River Hawks.
Susquehanna will continue its season on Friday, November 7th, with a meet at Messiah University.The team will then participate in the Misericordia University Cougar Splash Invite from November 21-23.
