Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Chris Eubank Jr.’s trainer, Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, believes Conor Benn is already defeated ahead of their highly anticipated rematch. McIntyre’s assessment comes as Eubank Jr. prepares for the April fight, a contest carrying significant implications for both fighters’ careers.
McIntyre, who began working with Eubank Jr. following the Brit’s January 2023 knockout loss to Liam Smith, expressed skepticism about Benn’s current state. “I think he’s already beat. He’s already beat,” McIntyre stated. He further suggested Benn may be motivated primarily by financial gain, noting, “I think, personally, he might be in it for the money. I’m sure they’re making good money for it.after what Chris done to him all the way up until now, some fighters can’t come back from that.”
Eubank Jr. secured a Round 10 knockout victory over smith in the rematch eight months later, after incorporating McIntyre’s guidance.McIntyre, also the trainer of Terence Crawford – currently ranked by ESPN as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter – and former WBO lightweight world champion Keyshawn Davis, emphasized Eubank Jr.’s preparedness. “Chris will be prepared for whatever he brings to the table,” he said.
McIntyre initially declined to work with Eubank Jr. for the first fight due to scheduling conflicts with Keyshawn Davis’s title fight preparation. Though, he readily accepted the chance for the rematch when timing allowed. “They gave me a call and asked me to think about it, it was a no brainer,” he explained.
The upcoming fight, expected to draw a crowd of “60,000 plus,” is being promoted by Riyadh Season, an event McIntyre praised for its high production value. While acknowledging Eubank Jr.’s victory in the first fight, McIntyre remained tight-lipped about specific areas for improvement, stating, “It was a good fight, he pulled away with the win. Obviously, he can do better but I’m not going to tell you [how].”
