Canal+ Secures Exclusive European Football Broadcast rights Through 2031

PARIS – Canal+ has extended ⁤its exclusive broadcasting rights for⁤ all UEFA club competitions, including the coveted Champions league, through the‌ 2030-2031 season. The renewal ⁣solidifies canal+’s position as a⁣ premier European football broadcaster as it navigates a changing sports ‌media landscape, particularly following the loss of rights to France’s Ligue 1 beginning⁤ with‍ the 2024-2025 season.

The agreement ensures Canal+ retains its flagship football offering, a crucial asset as‍ competition intensifies from digital giants like Amazon and Apple entering ⁤the sports streaming market. ‌This deal comes as UEFA explores options beyond conventional broadcasters, evidenced‍ by ⁣Amazon⁢ Prime’s recent €17 billion, eleven-year‌ agreement with the NBA and Apple’s‌ partnership⁢ with the MLS. ⁣ “We are vrey proud to renew our partnership with UEFA until 2031, consolidate our status as the‌ world’s leading broadcaster‍ of European football competitions,” stated Maxime Saada, Chairman of the Canal+ Group, in a press release.

UEFA has yet to ‍publicly comment on the terms of the call for⁣ tenders‌ that led to ⁣this ⁢agreement.
