ORONO, Maine – The Boston University field hockey team suffered a 5-0 defeat on the road against Maine Saturday afternoon at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex, marking the Terriers‘ eighth loss of the season.The setback comes as BU navigates a challenging stretch of their schedule, impacting their positioning in the competitive America East Conference.
Maine established control early, scoring within the frist ten minutes and adding another goal late in the second quarter to lead 2-0 at halftime. The Black Bears extended their advantage with two goals in the third quarter and a final tally in the closing minute of the game, securing the shutout victory. the result drops BU to 5-8 while Maine improves to 5-9.
Junior goalkeeper Sophie Ortyl recorded five saves across the first three quarters for the Terriers. Freshman Anna Wilson made her collegiate debut in the final quarter, entering the game to gain valuable experience.
The Black Bears broke the scoring silence at 9:59 of the first quarter when Saylor Kuefler converted a pass from Zoe Furber. Maine increased its lead with 2:59 remaining in the second quarter as Olivia Geniti capitalized on a rebound. The third quarter saw Maine extend its advantage with goals at the 33:21 and 39-minute marks, while the final goal came with just 39 seconds left in regulation.
Maine held a 14-5 advantage in shots and earned three penalty corners, matching BU’s total. Rozarie mrazova secured the shutout for maine, stopping both shots on goal she faced.
BU returns to action on Friday, September 24, hosting lafayette in their home finale.The game is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the Terriers will honor their senior class in a pre-game ceremony.
