Colorado Wildlife Center Overwhelmed by Record Influx of injured Animals
Boulder County, Colorado - november 16, 2025 – Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is facing an unprecedented surge in patients, treating a record-high number of injured and displaced animals this fall. The center, a critical resource for the region’s wildlife, has seen a dramatic increase in cases stemming from habitat loss, vehicle collisions, and other human-wildlife conflicts.
The influx is straining the center’s resources, demanding increased staffing, supplies, and financial support. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” said Johnson, a spokesperson for Greenwood. “Our capacity is really being tested.” The situation highlights a growing concern for wildlife populations as urban advancement continues to encroach on natural habitats across Colorado.
Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, located in boulder County, provides medical care and rehabilitation services to native Colorado wildlife with the goal of returning them to thier natural habitat. This year, the center has admitted a significantly higher volume of animals than in previous years, including birds of prey, small mammals, and reptiles. The increase is attributed to a combination of factors, including a notably active breeding season followed by harsh weather conditions and ongoing habitat fragmentation.
The center is actively seeking support through Colorado Gives, a statewide fundraising initiative.
