Boston College Men’s Hockey Extends Win Streak to Five With Victory Over Maine
CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Boston College defeated Maine 6-3 Friday night, extending their winning streak to five games and solidifying their position among teh nation’s top hockey programs. The eagles responded emphatically after Maine briefly threatened a comeback in the third period,securing a crucial victory in the first of a two-game series.
This win builds upon a strong season for the No. 15 ranked Eagles, who are aiming for a deep playoff run and a potential Beanpot title. The series against No. 10 Maine presents a important test, with both teams vying for crucial positioning in the Hockey East standings and national rankings. A weekend sweep would further elevate Boston College’s profile as a contender.
Maine ignited the third period with a quick goal from right winger Charlie Russell just 20 seconds in, narrowing the deficit to 3-2 with an assist from Justin Poirier. However, Boston College swiftly regained control, as Hagens scored his second goal of the night at 3:32, assisted by Sondreal and Will Vote, pushing the led back to 4-2.
Poirier continued maine’s offensive push, scoring at 8:53 to make it 4-3, with assists from Scott and Brandon Holt. But the Eagles answered again, with Ryan Conmy netting his fifth goal of the season at 12:57, assisted by Gustafsson and Luka Radivojevic, to restore a two-goal advantage at 5-3.
Boston College sealed the victory with two late goals. Stiga scored at 14:57 with help from conmy and Letourneau, and Conmy added an empty-net goal at 19:12 to finalize the score at 6-3.
“We were trying to be a little too light with the puck, trying to connect on passes that really weren’t there,” said Boston College head coach Greg Brown. “And once we realized it and got more into the game, we started to simplify and things got better for us.”
Eagles goaltender Louka Cloutier was instrumental in the win,allowing three goals while recording 35 saves for a .921 save percentage.
