Aston Martin Shocks F1 Grid with Adrian Newey Appointment as Team Principal
SILVERSTONE, UK – November 26, 2024 – Aston Martin formula 1 team today announced a critically important restructuring, naming Adrian Newey as Team Principal, effective at the turn of the year 2025/26. The move comes as current Team principal Andy Cowell transitions to a new role as chief Strategist. This unexpected shift positions the highly-regarded Newey,previously a key technical figure,at the helm of the ambitious Formula 1 outfit.
The appointment marks a pivotal moment for Aston Martin as it continues it’s push to become a consistent frontrunner in the sport. Newey’s arrival as Team Principal is intended to fully leverage his “creative and technical expertise,” according to team owner Lawrence Stroll,and optimize the team’s technical partnerships with Honda,Aramco,and Valvoline. He will be responsible for ensuring the seamless integration of the team’s new power unit, fuel, and chassis.
“Andy Cowell has been a great team boss this year. He has focused on building a world-class team and making sure thay work well together,as well as fostering a culture that puts the racing car back at the heart of everything we do,” stated Stroll. “The change at the management level is a joint decision that we have made in the interests of the team.”
Cowell, reflecting on his evolving role, stated, “In this role, I will help optimize the technical partnership between the team, Honda, Aramco and Valvoline and ensure the seamless integration of the team’s new power unit, fuel and chassis.”
Stroll emphasized that the restructuring is designed to allow Aston Martin to best exploit its “collective strengths.” He added, “I am also pleased that Adrian Newey will take on the role of team boss, which will allow him to fully utilize his creative and technical expertise.”
