McLennan Community College is expanding access to teacher education with its Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree,designed to provide a strong foundation for students aspiring to become certified educators.
Teh AAT degree introduces students to the field of teaching while fulfilling core curriculum requirements,preparing them for transfer to a four-year university. Upon completion, students can seamlessly continue their education at a Texas public university, including partner institutions available through McLennan’s University Center on campus.

The AAT program is a generalist program spanning early childhood through 12th grade, offering a broad introduction to education and allowing students to specialize during their bachelor’s degree studies. The curriculum consists of 60 credit hours of freshman- and sophomore-level coursework, designed to prepare students for a bachelor’s degree and a professional teaching career.
Field Experience
Practical experience is a key component of McLennan’s Education program. Students participate in field observations within local school districts, allowing them to observe and volunteer with teachers in real classroom settings. This experiential learning is designed to provide valuable insights into the profession.
Transfer Options
To become a certified teacher,AAT graduates must transfer to a four-year bachelor’s degree program. The University Center at McLennan offers a convenient pathway through partnerships with Tarleton State University and Texas Tech University.
Tarleton State University offers the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with certifications in four areas:
- EC-6 Generalist with ESL
- EC-6 Bilingual Generalist
- All-Level Special Education with EC-6 Generalist/ESL
- 4- 8 Middle School Language arts/Social Studies/ESL Certification
Texas Tech University offers the Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies in:
- Middle Level Certification — 4-8 Mathematics
