Cameron Highlands Crowned Asia’s Top Rural Destination
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Malaysia’s Cameron Highlands has been named the most popular rural destination in Asia, according to recent data from online travel platform Agoda.the region, celebrated for its cool climate, extensive tea plantations, and thriving agricultural landscape, topped a list of destinations with populations under 50,000.
The ranking, based on accomodation searches conducted between February 15th and August 15th, underscores a growing trend toward travelers seeking escapes to tranquil, nature-rich locales. This preference is notably significant as tourism rebounds,with travelers prioritizing authentic experiences and outdoor activities. The recognition is expected to boost tourism revenue for the region and highlight the importance of lasting tourism practices in preserving its natural beauty.
Located approximately 200 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur, in the northwestern part of Pahang state, the Cameron Highlands sit nearly 2,000 meters above sea level.This elevation contributes to a temperate climate, with temperatures ranging from 18 to 25 degrees Celsius during the summer months, making it an appealing destination year-round.
Named after Scottish explorer and geologist William Cameron, the area offers more than just picturesque scenery. Popular attractions include the unique Mossy Forest,a network of hiking trails,and vibrant gardens like the Cameron Lavender Garden. Thailand’s Khao Yai secured the second spot in Agoda’s ranking, followed by Puncak in Indonesia.
