Title: Archaeological Excavations Uncover Ancient City of Mouchtraya

Archaeological Dig Begins at Ancient Moroccan City of⁤ Mouchtraya

Sidi Bennour Province, Morocco – Archaeological excavations have commenced at the site of ⁢Mouchtraya, an ancient city located in the commune of El Gharbia, Sidi Bennour province, marking a important step in uncovering the region’s rich history. The dig, launched this week, aims too identify and document the archaeological heritage of the area, focusing on remnants of walls, gates, and ceramic artifacts.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Laboratory of morocco and the Mediterranean‍ Countries at Chouaib Doukkali University of El Jadida and the National Institute of Archeology and Heritage Sciences (INSAP), alongside local associations and stakeholders. ⁣Researchers hope the findings will‌ illuminate the history of the Doukkala region and provide a more detailed understanding of Mouchtraya’s ⁣past.

“The project’s mission​ is to identify the ⁢archaeological heritage of the region,​ precisely with regard⁤ to walls, doors and‍ ceramic vestiges,” explained Abdellah Fili,‍ director‌ of ⁢the Laboratory​ of Morocco and the ‌Mediterranean Countries and a⁤ professor of history ⁢and archeology at Chouaiib Doukkali University,⁣ in a statement to MAP.Founded in the 16th century, Mouchtraya – also known‌ historically as “Al Madina El Gharbia” and “Mouchnzaya” -⁣ sits between Oualidia and the town of El⁢ Gharbia. The initial phase of the excavation is ​scheduled to conclude on‌ Tuesday, September 9th. ​Samples collected during the dig will⁢ undergo thorough analysis, with​ researchers anticipating new insights into the city’s origins and​ progress. ⁣

This excavation represents a focused effort to preserve and understand a crucial piece of Morocco’s cultural heritage,​ potentially attracting further research and⁢ tourism to the Doukkala region.
