Ypê Liquid Soap Recalled nationwide After Pseudomonas aeruginosa Detection
BRASÍLIA – Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered teh immediate recall of several lots of ypê liquid laundry detergent after the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria during internal testing. The recall impacts multiple versions of tixan Ypê and ypê Power Act liquid detergents, prompting consumers to check their product batches and contact customer service for replacements.
The decision affects products already in circulation and halts further sale and distribution. While Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common environmental microorganism with a low probability of causing harm to the general population, Anvisa and manufacturer Química Amparo are taking precautionary measures due to potential risks for individuals with weakened immune systems. This recall underscores the stringent quality control measures in place for consumer products and highlights the companies’ commitment to consumer safety, even when risks are minimal.
The affected products are:
* tixan Ypê Liquid Clothes Washer – Spring version (Lots 254031 and 193021)
* Tixan Ypê Liquid Clothes Washer – Soft version (Lot 097021)
* Tixan Ypê express Liquid Clothes Washer – Combat bad Odor (Blue) (Lots 176011, 228011, 205011, 203011 and 169011) and care for Clothes (Pink) versions – (Lots: 181011, 170011 and 220011)
* Ypê Power Act Liquid Clothes Washer (Lots: 228031, 190021 and 223021)
According to a company statement, the contamination was identified by an “autonomous specialized laboratory” after “several tests.” ypê reported that the bacteria is “commonly present in the air and water, with minimal probability of impact on the safety of products and consumers.” However, the company acknowledged that, “In isolation, the microorganism can cause or worsen possible infectious conditions in people with a weakened immune system.”
Química Amparo emphasized that the risk is reduced due to the product’s usage characteristics, stating, “Even if this risk is still minimized by the normal characteristics of using a washing machine (dilution in water, lack of prolonged contact with the skin), we will recall the products from the market.”
Consumers possessing bottles from the affected batches are advised to contact Ypê Consumer Service at 0800 1300 544 to arrange for a product exchange. The company will provide a new product to affected consumers.Química Amparo has reaffirmed its commitment to quality control in an official notice.
