Musician Announces Potential Final Song Amidst AI Disruption
A musician with over 20 years of experience creating full-production songs – composing, writing, singing, and playing all instruments – announced their 21st release may be their last, citing the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence as a factor. The artist expressed concern that AI’s ability to generate complete songs in minutes undermines the value of the extensive time and financial investment – “hundreds of hours and lakhs of rupees” – traditionally required for music creation.
“There’s no rational reason for it anymore,” the musician wrote in a recent post. “AI has killed the art of music creation and production for all practical purposes.” Manny musicians, the post continued, have dedicated their careers to honing their craft, frequently enough foregoing more lucrative opportunities in fields like business, finance, and technology.
The new song, ironically titled “Phir Ek Baar,” features guitar, piano, vocalization, and metaphorical lyrics. A link to the song is available here. The artist acknowledged the potential futility of detailed description, stating, “Who gives a shit?” but described the work as “raw, imperfect, [and] human,” qualities they believe will become increasingly rare in the age of AI-generated music.
