Finnish Air Guitarist Claims World Title After 24-Year Drought
Oulu, finland – Aapo Rautio, known as “The Angus,” electrified the Air Guitar World Championships in his hometown of Oulu, Finland, securing the title and ending a 24-year winning drought for Finnish competitors. The victory marks the first time a Finnish air guitarist has been crowned world champion as 2000.Rautio triumphed over Japan’s Yuta Sudo, also known as Sudo-chan, following a tiebreaker performance of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” the annual competition, founded on the principle of “air, not war,” believes that global harmony can be achieved through the universal language of air guitar.This year’s championship concluded with all competitors celebrating Rautio’s win onstage while performing Neil Young’s “Keep On Rockin’ In The Free World.” Despite his air guitar prowess, Rautio is a practicing musician, playing drums for the band The Southgates. His prize for winning the competition is a real guitar.The Air Guitar World Championships will remain in Oulu for next year’s event.
