Tony Khan Confirms WWE Did Not Approach AEW About Adam Copeland‘s Involvement in John Cena‘s Final Match
AEW President Tony Khan definitively stated that WWE never contacted him regarding the possibility of Adam Copeland (formerly Edge) participating in the “Last Time is Now” tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent. The confirmation came during an appearance on “The Ariel helwani Show” Tuesday afternoon, putting to rest ongoing speculation fueled by Copeland’s tribute to Cena at AEW’s All Out event in September.
The tournament ultimately featured Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler as the outside-WWE talents vying for the chance, effectively ending hopes of a potential Cena vs. Copeland match. While Khan didn’t entirely rule out a future scenario were Copeland could join Cena’s retirement tour if timelines shifted, he strongly indicated it was improbable.
“No,” Khan responded directly when asked if WWE had reached out about Copeland’s participation. He further clarified that Copeland is contracted with AEW through the end of the year, emphasizing his value to the company.”Adam’s going to be here with us through the end of the year…Adam Copeland is a huge part of AEW, and I have so much respect for him, and I really, really like Adam a lot.And I’m glad to have him here.” Copeland is currently away filming, but remains under contract with AEW.
