Washington Huskies Target Elite ‍Edge Rushers in 2027 ‌Class

SEATTLE – The University⁤ of⁤ Washington football ‌program is ‍prioritizing edge rusher talent in the 2027 recruiting class, with coaches‍ actively ⁤pursuing ‌several highly-ranked prospects. Early returns suggest the Huskies are ‌in contention for multiple⁢ players who could considerably impact the team’s defensive front.

Krew Jones, a ⁤standout from Millville, ‌Utah, currently ranks‍ 156th nationally and 18th at⁣ his position. Jones has ‌garnered national attention since his freshman season⁢ due to his rare⁣ combination of size, speed, and power.⁤ While currently believed to be leaning towards Oklahoma, Washington was able to host‍ him for a game⁤ this season and remains a strong contender‌ if they can secure⁤ another visit.

Troy Bowens of Sutter,⁤ California, is rated 173rd nationally and 22nd⁣ at his position‍ (247Sports rates ‍him as a defensive‍ lineman). Bowens projects ⁢as⁤ a versatile SDE/DL hybrid capable of both ⁣disciplined run defense and disruptive pass rushing. He has publicly ⁣stated that UW is his favorite, though Oregon, ‍kansas, and Tennessee also pose threats.

The Huskies are also pursuing Troy mailo from Denver, colorado, who is ranked 40th at his position. Mailo is described as a pass-rushing speed merchant⁤ who‌ consistently plays at⁢ a high tempo,⁤ utilizing⁤ his ‌lower body strength⁢ to power through blockers. Arizona, Arizona State, and Kansas State are also ‍showing interest.

Local prospect Ty Tautolo, hailing from Lake Stevens, Washington, is ranked 50th at his position and has drawn comparisons to former Husky Hau’oli⁤ Kikaha due to his extraordinary speed ⁣and disruptive playmaking ability. Tautolo has ‌already attended⁤ multiple Husky games, and Washington is positioned well‍ early in his recruitment. However, they will face ‍competition ⁣from Notre Dame, Oregon, and Texas A&M ‌to keep him in-state.
