As the NFL trade deadline approaches, several prominent players find themselves in situations ripe for a change of scenery, possibly altering the landscape of the league’s contenders. Teams seeking to bolster their rosters for a playoff push are already evaluating options, and a handful of established veterans and underutilized talents could be on the move. This year’s market features intriguing possibilities at key positions, from tight end to edge rusher and cornerback.
The annual trade deadline-November 5th at 4 p.m. ET-frequently enough sparks surprising deals, and this season appears poised to deliver. Several factors are at play: struggling teams looking to recoup assets, contenders aiming for a final push, and players facing uncertain futures wiht their current clubs.here’s a look at 10 players to watch as the deadline nears:
1. Mark Andrews, TE, Baltimore Ravens
An injury to Mark Andrews could accelerate trade talks. the Ravens have a strong receiving corps, and a team in need of a top tight end could make a notable offer.
2. David Njoku, TE, Cleveland Browns
Buccaneers, Los Angeles Chargers, Indianapolis Colts and others could certainly use a boost from someone of Njoku’s caliber.
3. Jaelan Phillips, Edge, Miami Dolphins
He hasn’t played a full season since 2022, but when healthy, the former first-round pick is highly impactful as a pass rusher. A number of top teams – 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs, to name a few – find themselves in need of edge-rushing help.
4. wyatt Teller, G, Cleveland Browns
The disappointing Browns could save some money against the cap by trading off the three-time Pro Bowl selection, who has voidable years left on his deal after this season.Talented interior linemen are hard to come by and teams like the Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks could use the help.
5.Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge, New York Giants
Thibodeaux looked like a force in 2023 when he racked up 11.5 sacks, 50 tackles and three forced fumbles. He played in just 12 games last season and now finds himself as a rotational pass rusher behind Giants rookie abdul Carter and veteran Brian Burns. the 49ers, Buccaneers, Chiefs and Lions rank among teams in need of a pass rusher. The Commanders do as well, but the Giants aren’t likely to trade within their division.
6. Riq Woolen,CB,Seattle Seahawks
Woolen hasn’t performed at the same level as he did during his first three NFL seasons, and the Seahawks have plenty of talented defensive backs in Shaquille Griffin,Josh Jobe,Devon Witherspoon (when healthy) and Derion Kendrick. There are teams like the Lions, Eagles and Buffalo bills that are hurting for playmakers at the cornerback position. Perhaps a change of scenery could do Woolen some good.
7. Trey Hendrickson, Edge, Cincinnati Bengals
Hendrickson is a proven pass rusher, and the Bengals may consider moving him to address other needs. Several teams would be interested in adding a player of his caliber.
8. Chase Young, Edge, San Francisco 49ers
Young hasn’t consistently lived up to his draft hype, and the 49ers have a crowded defensive line. A team willing to gamble on his potential could acquire him.
9. Brian Burns, Edge, Carolina Panthers
Burns has been a consistent performer for the Panthers, but with the team undergoing a rebuild, he could be a valuable trade asset. Multiple contenders are likely to inquire about his availability.
10. Justin Fields, QB, Chicago Bears
With the emergence of Tyson Bagent, Fields’ future with the Bears is uncertain. Several quarterback-needy teams could explore a trade for the athletic signal-caller.
