Tinashe Joins Charli xcx for Surprise Set at ACL Festival
Charli XCX brought out Tinashe as a surprise guest during her headlining set at the Austin City Limits Festival on Friday, October 9, billboard.com reported. Performing at Zilker Park, Charli welcomed Tinashe to the stage to deliver two tracks from her newest album, Popstar, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in early October.
Surprise Stage Appearance at Zilker Park
The surprise performance was teased earlier in the day via social media. Tinashe shared a video on her Instagram Stories showing herself and Charli dancing backstage to their 2015 collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign, “Drop That Kitty.” During the festival set, Tinashe made the live debut of “Nobody Wanna Dance Anymore” and also performed the dance-pop standout “Melatonin.”
Connections to the Sweat Tour and Past Collaborations
On October 2, during the opening weekend of the ACL Festival, Charli welcomed her Sweat Tour partner Troye Sivan to the stage to perform his songs “Le Boy” and “Party.” Having previously teamed up on “Drop That Kitty” in 2015, Charli and Tinashe joined forces again in 2024 for a “B2B” remix featured on the British artist’s LP Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat.
Popstar Becomes Tinashe's Highest Charting Album
Tinashe is currently celebrating a career milestone with Popstar reaching No. 6 on the Billboard 200, securing her highest position on the charts to date along with her maiden entry into the top 10. Responding to the milestone on X, Tinashe wrote that she was unbelievably grateful, adding a string of crying emojis and thanking fans for their love and support.
Her previous chart history includes peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 with her 2014 major-label debut, Aquarius. Subsequent releases saw Nightride reach No. 89, Joyride hit No. 58, and 2024’s Quantum Baby debut at No. 199.

Festival Closing Schedule
The 25th anniversary edition of the Austin City Limits Festival wraps up its final weekend with headlining performances by RÜFÜS DU SOL, Lorde, Lola Young, and Young Miko on Saturday, October 10. Closing sets from Twenty One Pilots, The xx, Geese, and Sofi Tukker follow on Sunday, October 11.
