The Minnesota Timberwolves re-signed veteran forward Kyle Anderson on Monday, bringing back a key contributor from their 2024 Western Conference finals run, according to team announcements.
Anderson, 32, joins the Timberwolves after his contract was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies. He had been acquired by the Grizzlies in a trade with the Utah Jazz earlier this season. Prior to that, Anderson spent time with the Golden State Warriors after initially signing with them in free agency following his first stint with Minnesota.
During his previous two seasons in Minnesota, Anderson started 56 games, averaging 25.3 minutes per contest – the highest of his 12-year NBA career. He established himself as a fan favorite, earning the nickname “Slo Mo” for his deliberate offensive style, and recorded three triple-doubles for the team. He has played for a total of six teams since being drafted in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs in 2014.
This season, Anderson has appeared in 24 games for both the Jazz and the Grizzlies, averaging 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 20.4 minutes per game. His versatility and defensive capabilities were cited as key factors in the Timberwolves’ decision to bring him back, particularly as they pursue a deep playoff run.
The Timberwolves are scheduled to host the Grizzlies on Tuesday evening, providing Anderson with an immediate opportunity to face his former team. The game is set to tip off at 8 PM ET and will be available on NBA League Pass.
It remains uncertain whether Anderson will be available to play against the Grizzlies immediately following his signing, but his presence is expected to bolster the Timberwolves’ playoff push.
