Three historic SF businesses announced closures, el-periodico.com.ar
Three historic businesses in San Francisco, including two clothing and sporting goods stores and a travel agency, announced they are shutting down operations, resulting in the loss of between seven and ten direct jobs, el-periodico.com.ar reported. The closures affect Gioco Deportes, Jorojos, and Furi Viajes.
Labor meetings over job losses
The Sindicato de Empleados de Comercio held meetings with the various firms during the afternoon of Wednesday to guarantee the legal rights of the affected workers. The impending job losses directly impact between seven and ten individuals, the majority of whom are women.
Business closures across San Francisco
The shuttering businesses represent decades of commercial history in the city. Gioco Deportes announced its permanent closure through social media, stating they were closing a chapter after years of opening their doors daily. Furi Viajes confirmed it will end 31 years of operation, though the agency did not disclose the specific reason for its closure. Meanwhile, Jorojos confirmed that both of its locations situated along Boulevard 25 de Mayo will shut down permanently, driven primarily by falling sales figures.
Retail sector pressures in Córdoba
The broader economic climate for local merchants remains strained. Earlier in the week, the Córdoba delegation of the Asamblea de Pequeños y Medianos Empresarios (APYME) staged a protest across downtown corridors to highlight the critical situation facing small and medium-sized enterprises and retail shops. The organization placed symbolic banners over the metal shutters of vacant storefronts carrying the slogan stating that small businesses can no longer sustain the current economic model.
