Thousands participated in the Martin luther King Jr. “Walk With me” event on January 15, 2026, marching 6.2 miles through Sacramento. The event began at Sacramento City College and concluded at the California State Capitol building, honoring Dr. King’s legacy and promoting his message of peace and equality.

The walk, organized by the Sacramento MLK Coalition, drew participants from diverse backgrounds across the Sacramento region. Organizers estimated over 5,000 people joined the march, making it one of the largest MLK Day events in the city’s history. Sacramento MLK Coalition has been organizing this event for over a decade.

“This walk isn’t just about remembering Dr. King; it’s about continuing his fight for justice,” said Reverend Dr. Alice Huffman, president of the Sacramento NAACP, during a pre-march rally. NAACP played a key role in promoting the event and encouraging community involvement.

Participants carried signs bearing Dr. King’s quotes and messages of social justice. Many attendees emphasized the importance of addressing ongoing issues of racial inequality and systemic injustice. The route passed several landmarks meaningful to Sacramento’s history, providing opportunities for reflection and dialog.

City of Sacramento officials provided logistical support for the event, ensuring public safety and smooth traffic flow.
