Parts of the Philippines Brace for Rains as Three Weather Systems Converge
MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a weather advisory warning of scattered rains and thunderstorms across several regions due to three distinct weather systems. The shear line, easterlies, and northeast monsoon are expected to bring varying weather conditions nationwide, with some areas at risk of flash floods and landslides.
Weather Systems at Play
The shear line is set to trigger scattered rains and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas, while the easterlies will affect Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. PAGASA cautioned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas could lead to flash floods or landslides, urging residents to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring light rains to Batanes and isolated light rains across the rest of Luzon. The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also influenced by the easterlies.
Wind and sea conditions
Northern and Central Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds and rough seas, while the rest of the country will see light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters. PAGASA emphasized that no low-pressure area has been detected, ruling out the possibility of tropical cyclone formation for now.
