Grand Blanc, MI – A 10-year-old grand Blanc boy who lost both legs to complications from the flu is now using his story to educate and empower others as the superhero ”Kaden Blaze” in a newly released comic book.Kaden Stevenson unveiled the comic at a full school assembly at Brendel Elementary School on Thursday, Sept. 25,2025.
The comic book details Kaden’s personal battle with the flu, which ultimately led to the amputation of both of his legs, and frames his experience within a superhero narrative designed to educate youth about flu prevention and the importance of vaccination.proceeds from “Kaden Blaze Fights Flu Bug” will benefit Families Fighting Flu, a national non-profit organization dedicated to protecting families from the flu.
Families Fighting Flu was founded in part by Zach Yaksich of West Bloomfield, whose daughter Alana died in 2003 at age 5 due to flu complications. “The organization has grown, unfortunately, because of continued tragedy, but we do great work,” Yaksich said. The organization advocates for flu education and prevention, with a particular focus on vaccination.
Yaksich emphasized the importance of flu prevention efforts, stating, “It’s more significant now than ever, especially with what’s going on and misinformation out there scaring people.”
