Toyota Faces Legal Action Over Alleged Faulty Paint

Owners claim white paint peels due to sun exposure.

A group of disgruntled customers, supported by **William Roberts** law firm, is suing Toyota Australia, alleging that the white paint on certain Toyota Corollas is defective and peels because of sun exposure.

Class Action Lawsuit

The lawsuit centers on Toyota Corollas manufactured between July 12, 2010, and September 30, 2014. Plaintiffs claim the white paint detaches due to strong UV radiation, requiring costly repairs.

Affected owners seek compensation for vehicle depreciation and repainting costs, plus damages for the frustration caused. The legal action claims Toyota violated Australian consumer protection laws regarding product quality.

Specifically, the lawsuit targets the 040 color code white shade, marketed as Glacier Pure Super White, Glacier White, Super White, and Super White II, arguing that this paint is inherently flawed.

Previous Issues and Current Resistance

Toyota acknowledged similar issues in 2022 with certain colors, admitting that factory-applied primer could detach from metal surfaces due to UV radiation. However, plaintiffs in the current case say their cars haven’t been recognized by Toyota, prompting their legal action.

Toyota Australia is reportedly resisting the claims and denying the accusations.

Auto paint issues are not uncommon; for example, in 2023, Hyundai and Kia agreed to a $1.7 million settlement over peeling paint on various models (ClassAction.org).
