Investigators Scour Scene After Victim Discovered by Friends

A distressing discovery was made Saturday evening when a retired university professor was found dead inside his home in Los Mochis. The 67-year-old educator, identified as Jesús Rey L., lived alone and was last known to have planned a meeting at his residence.

Macabre Scene Uncovered by Visiting Friends

The grim finding occurred around 8:30 PM on August 2nd at the professor’s home on Jesús González Ortega street in the Montebello subdivision. Two friends arrived for a planned get-together, finding the house locked and receiving no response from Jesús Rey L.. Growing concerned, one of the visitors entered the property.

Inside, they were met with a disturbing sight: Jesús Rey L. was discovered lifeless in one of the rooms. Preliminary reports suggest he suffered from signs of violence, possibly asphyxiation by strangulation.

Mysterious “New Friends” Hinted at Potential Foul Play

Evidence at the scene reportedly indicated a gathering had taken place, fueling speculation that the professor may have met with individuals unknown to his regular friends. Unofficial information suggests Jesús Rey L. had mentioned meeting “new friends” shortly before his death.

Neighbors described the victim as a quiet and solitary man who occasionally hosted visitors, both young and adult, within his home. These visitors were rarely seen outside the residence, with only vehicles typically observed.

Forensic Teams Investigate, Security Footage Key

Authorities, including the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Ahome, responded to the scene. Given the victim’s condition, the State Attorney General’s office was notified.

Investigators from the Northern Region Vice-Fiscal’s office and the General Directorate of Expert Services are now processing the property for any potential evidence related to the homicide. The presence of security cameras at the professor’s residence is considered a significant lead, which could help identify those present during the alleged meeting or confirm the account provided by the friends who discovered the body.

Investigators will also seek to determine if Jesús Rey L.‘s vehicle was taken by one of the attendees at the gathering.
