The third season of the Czech Television crime series Docent concluded on Sunday, September 20, drawing 1,402,000 viewers aged 15 and older to ČT1 and capturing 37.22 percent of the audience watching television at that moment, according to ATO data published by MediaGuru.
Sunday Night Ratings Clash
That final-night audience figure outpaced the conclusion of the second season, which reached 1,342,000 people in September 2024. It remained below the first season’s high of 1,920,000 viewers recorded in February 2023.
The broadcast easily led its Sunday night time slot against competing programming.
Director Hints at Fourth Season
Director Jiří Strach addressed the prospect of a fourth season on his Facebook profile shortly after the broadcast. He wrote that he would be allowed to shoot Docent 4 after finishing the third installment of Anděl Páně, according to Kinobox.
Kinobox noted that the post included emojis and served as a social media update rather than an official press release, advising readers to view the timeline with caution.
Fairy-Tale Film Takes Priority over Crime Drama
The scheduling priority places the upcoming fairy-tale film ahead of the crime drama. Both projects feature actor Ivan Trojan, who plays investigator Stehlík in Docent and the angel Petronel in Anděl Páně.
Production on the third Anděl Páně film faced delays and pauses following the death of actor Jiří Bartoška in May 2024, as reported by Echo24. Scenes featuring Bartoška as God have already been filmed.
Strach Aims for 2028 Premiere
Strach told Novinky at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the summer that he intends to finish the film this winter or the next, with a premiere anticipated in 2028. The Czech Film Center, operating under the State Fund for Audiovision, lists the project in development with a scheduled completion date of December 2027.
With the third season of Docent having begun production in October 2025 before its September television premiere, a potential fourth season remains contingent on the completion of the feature film schedule.
