## Stone Roses Bassist Mani Dies at 63
Gary “Mani” Mounfield,the influential bassist for The Stone Roses,has died aged 63,his family announced today.the news of his passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians and fans, marking the end of an era for one of British music’s most iconic bands.
Mounfield joined The Stone Roses in 1987, quickly becoming integral to their signature sound, contributing to both their self-titled debut album and *Second Coming*. His distinctive basslines helped define the Madchester scene and cemented the band’s place in music history before their initial split in 1996.
The news was shared by his brother, Greg Mounfield, in a Facebook post stating, ”It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother.” He added, “RIP RKID.”
Mounfield’s death comes two years after the passing of his wife, Imelda Mounfield, who died following a diagnosis of stage 4 bowel cancer in November 2020. The couple had twin sons, born in 2012.
Tributes have already begun flooding social media. Ian Brown, frontman of The Stone Roses, posted on X: “REST IN PEACE MANi X.” rowetta, vocalist with the Happy Mondays, wrote on the same platform: “Back with yoru Imelda, Mani. Going to miss you so much. All my love to the boys, the family & all those who knew & loved him.”
