Disney Announces New ‘Simpsons‘ Movie, Targeting July 23, 2027 Release
A second theatrical feature film based on the long-running animated series The Simpsons is in growth at 20th Century Studios, with a planned release date of July 23, 2027. The announcement was made via Instagram, featuring an image of Homer Simpson reaching for a pink, sprinkle-covered donut shaped like the number “2,” accompanied by the caption, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
The new film arrives over a decade after the first Simpsons movie, which debuted in 2007 and grossed $536 million worldwide. Created by Matt groening, The Simpsons premiered as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show before becoming a full-fledged series on Fox in December 1989, and is currently in its 37th season. The series follows the everyday lives of the Simpson family – homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie – in the fictional town of Springfield.
The release date was previously reserved for an untitled Marvel film. Warner Bros.’ animated musical Bad Fairies is also currently scheduled for release on the same date.
The voice cast includes Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson, Julie Kavner as Marge, Nancy Cartwright as Bart, and Yeardley Smith as Lisa. The 2007 film centered on Homer contaminating Springfield’s water supply, leading the Environmental Protection Agency too encase the town in a dome.
the Hollywood Reporter‘s Kirk Honeycutt described the first film as “caustic, irreverent, constantly amusing and a tiny bit rude,” noting it “labored long and hard to make a movie that hearkens back to the vintage years of the series.”
