The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin – PS5 Free-to-Play RPG Review & Early Access

March 22, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

The open-world action RPG The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin launched in early access on PlayStation 5 and Steam today, March 22, 2026, offering players a new entry point into the popular manga and anime franchise. The game, developed by Saiga NAK, is also available on PC, with a full release planned for other platforms on March 23, 2026.

Rather than a straightforward narrative adaptation, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin presents a sprawling open world where players assume the role of Tristan and can recruit characters from the series. This design choice aims to create a lasting experience, supported by ongoing content updates and events. The launch marks a significant step for free-to-play RPGs on the PS5, a market previously dominated by multiplayer shooters.

The game employs a “gacha” monetization system, where players obtain characters, equipment, and bonuses through randomized in-game draws. This model, popularized by titles like Genshin Impact, has proven commercially successful and is gaining traction on consoles. A €10 welcome pack is available for purchase, offering resources to accelerate player progression, but is not required to play.

The early access release allows developers to gather player feedback and refine the game’s balance before its wider launch. Initial reactions have focused on the game’s faithful recreation of the source material and its dynamic combat system. The community will be closely watching the balancing of the gacha system, a common point of contention in games utilizing this monetization model.

The PlayStation Blog highlighted the detailed graphics and optimized performance of the PS5 version, noting the improved experience compared to mobile platforms. This launch follows a previous release on March 16th, according to reports. The game’s availability on both PS5 and Steam signals a strategic effort to reach a broad audience.
