“The Morning ‌Show” Season 4 Struggles to Balance New Faces with Lingering Plotlines, Critics Say

Cupertino, CA – April 3, 2024 – apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” returned for its fourth season, but early reviews‌ suggest the latest installment is weighed down by an overstuffed cast and a reluctance to resolve ⁣past storylines, overshadowing the potential of its new additions. While⁢ veteran characters are finally receiving⁣ more considerable advancement, critics argue the season feels increasingly chaotic and less compelling than previous iterations.

The review highlights the challenge of integrating⁤ new players into the established⁣ dynamic, ⁣citing ‍needless revisits to concluded relationships like that of Alex Levy ‌and‍ her former partner, Paul Marks (Jon⁢ Hamm). The reappearance of Alex’s former deputy, Chip (Mark Duplass), now a documentary filmmaker, alongside Bradley in an environmental investigation‌ – described as‍ reminiscent of “erin Brockovich” – also ⁣drew criticism. The return of a previously departed character, altered in personality, was questioned, with reviewers asking why‍ a new character wasn’t created⁢ rather.

A⁣ meaningful issue, according to the review, is the awkward attempt to retroactively establish the importance of ⁤the character ⁤Celine ⁢within the ‌fictional media company’s structure. Meanwhile, characters Harper and Irons experience inconsistent screen time,⁣ and the character of ⁢Bro, while ⁣receiving development, is ⁢characterized as ⁣a collection⁣ of tropes.Newcomer Pierre, recently featured in “Ruby Ridge,” is noted‌ as being primarily utilized for aesthetic appeal.

Though, the season’s ⁤strongest moments reportedly come from finally giving ⁤more focus to established characters ‍Karen Pittman’s Mia and Nicole beharie’s Chris. The series, wich has consistently addressed racial inequity, appears to be “walking the‌ walk” this season by providing these actors with ⁤opportunities to step into more ‌prominent roles.Chris’s storyline benefits from⁤ the timing of the Olympics, while Mia⁤ gains more prominence following Pittman’s‌ departure ⁢from “And just Like ⁤That,” a series whose recent finale has left a void in the “hatewatch with wine” television landscape.

Despite these improvements, the review concludes that “The Morning Show” remains a “compulsively watchable, campy kind‍ of mess,” with Season 4 amplifying the chaos rather than refining it.

The ⁣first episode of ⁢”The Morning Show” Season 4 is currently streaming ⁣on Apple TV+, with subsequent episodes airing weekly on Wednesdays.
