Lyric Hammersmith Theater Celebrates 130 Years with Star-Studded gala
London, UK – The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre will mark it’s 130th anniversary on sunday, October 19, 2025, with a special one-night-only performance featuring a stellar line-up of performers including Sanjeev Bhaskar, Mel Giedroyc, Dame Sheila Hancock, Clarke Peters, and Michael Sheen, alongside a company of rising stars and Lyric alumni.
Hosted by Mel Giedroyc and directed by the theatre’s Associate Director Nicholai La Barrie, the event promises a unique blend of variety and tribute, reflecting 130 years of performance history from Victorian music halls to contemporary productions.
Opened in 1895, the Lyric’s Main House is a notable example of the work of theatre architect Frank Matcham, renowned for his ornate designs.Throughout its history, the Lyric has remained a vital creative hub for the Hammersmith community.
“Celebrating a 130th birthday is an incredible achievement,” said Rachel O’Riordan, Artistic Director of the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. “Our lovely Frank Matcham Main House inspires everything we do – from the world-class productions on stage to our award-winning work with young people. This event will both celebrate that work with a breathtaking one-night-only show and raise vital funds to upgrade our auditorium for the future. We hope to see you there.”
The gala will also support the “Light Up the Lyric” campaign, a fundraising initiative to restore and replace the theatre’s lighting infrastructure. All proceeds from the performance will contribute to this effort, ensuring the Lyric’s continued vibrancy for future generations.
The full company includes Emmanuel Akwafo, Natasha Barnes, Gabriela Benedetti, Maddison Bulleyment, Harriet Caplan-Dean, Jaz Singh deol, Anoushka Deshmukh, Robert Donnelly, Rima Georges, Thomas Grant, Sam Harrison, Adam Hunter, Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky, gracie McGonigal, Rachel Seiran, and Sheridan townsley.
